Where we work

Roofing video and drone content in British Columbia

BC roofers face two filming calendars in one province: a wet, mild coast where work stretches across the year, and a colder Interior and North where the capture window is shorter. We plan footage for both.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

British Columbia is really two roofing markets with different filming calendars. On the southwest coast, around Vancouver and Victoria, winters are mild and wet, so roofing work and footage capture can continue through much of the year whenever the rain lets up. In the Interior and the North, winters are much colder and longer, and the window for filming finished roofs narrows. A good BC content plan accounts for both.

The BC roofing market and its buyers

Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley are dense and competitive. Vancouver, Surrey, Burnaby, Richmond, Coquitlam and Abbotsford are among BC's largest municipalities, and many roofers there compete for the same searches. Lots are tight and neighbours close, which matters for drone framing and pilot certificates.

Victoria and Saanich have a strong renovation culture with older housing stock, where before-and-after galleries of character homes do well.

Kelowna and the Okanagan have a defined building season and plenty of newer homes on hillsides, where aerials show rooflines clearly.

Across the province, homeowners comparing quotes want evidence of water management: membranes, flashing and drainage details. That is where project films earn their place.

Climate and the filming calendar

The coast's mild, wet winters mean:

  • Capture continues most of the year, but around the weather. Plan aerial sets for dry windows and keep ground footage rolling in between.
  • Rain protection is content. A clip showing a crew tarping a roof as a storm arrives tells a coastal buyer more than a sunny finished shot.
  • Moss and drainage questions come up constantly in searches, so close-ups of what tear-off reveals make strong short clips.

In the Interior and the North, colder and longer winters push most exterior work into the warm months. We bank footage during the season and use winter to edit, publish and run video search work on what has been captured.

Regulators and rules to know

We link and summarise only; confirm your obligations with each body.

  • WorkSafeBC is the workers' compensation board and sets workplace safety rules, including those your crew follows on roofs. We will not publish footage that contradicts them.
  • Consumer Protection BC handles consumer protection matters.
  • BC Housing Licensing & Consumer Services deals with residential builder licensing and home warranty matters, which can be relevant if you work on new homes.
  • Drone flights follow federal Transport Canada rules, summarised in our drone rules guide. Busy metro areas near airports often mean controlled airspace and an Advanced certificate.
  • Privacy: the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada notes that BC has its own private-sector privacy law. Our consent guide covers practical permission steps.

Programs worth knowing, as of October 2026

Most BC energy programs centre on heat pumps, which are not roofing work. One may matter if your company also does attic insulation: the CleanBC Better Homes Home Renovation Rebate Program was listed for renovations including insulation for households that are not income-qualified, though current rebate amounts were not confirmed on 2026-10-22. Check the program page and confirm with the administrator before mentioning it in any video or caption.

How we would plan a year of BC footage

  1. Split by market. Separate galleries and town pages for coastal and Interior work, because buyers in each care about different things.
  2. Shoot weather. On the coast, capture the protection steps on wet days as deliberately as the finished roofs on dry ones.
  3. Plan for dense lots. Brief the pilot early on neighbours and airspace; frame tightly and blur what does not belong.
  4. Publish through winter. Use the slower months on the coast and in the Interior to cut short clips and longer explainers from banked footage.

Frequently asked questions

Can we film roofs during the coastal rainy season?

Yes, between showers, and the footage of weather protection is valuable in itself. Coastal buyers want to see tarps, membranes and dry-in steps handled well. Drone flights depend on wind and rain, so the pilot decides on the day.

Is there a BC rebate we can mention in roofing videos?

As of October 2026, the CleanBC Better Homes Home Renovation Rebate Program was listed for energy-efficiency renovations such as insulation, but current amounts were not confirmed. If you also do attic insulation, check the program page before mentioning it.

Does BC have its own privacy law for businesses?

Yes. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada lists BC among the provinces with their own private-sector privacy law. We name it so you know it exists; for what it means for your company, ask a lawyer.
